These updates patch two vulnerabilities and are available for Mac, Windows and Linux.<\/p>\n<p>Affected software versions include: Adobe Flash Player Desktop Runtime 18.0.0.203 and earlier for Mac and Windows, Adobe Flash Player Extended Support Release version 13.0.0.302 and earlier, and Adobe Flash Player 11.2.202.481 for Linux.<\/p>\n<p>The security flaws addressed in Adobe&#8217;s latest\u00a0updates are described as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>These updates resolve a use-after-free vulnerability that could lead to code execution (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cve.mitre.org\/cgi-bin\/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2015-5122\" target=\"_blank\">CVE-2015-5122<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>These updates resolve a memory corruption vulnerability that could lead to code execution (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cve.mitre.org\/cgi-bin\/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2015-5123\" target=\"_blank\">CVE-2015-5123<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These updates mark the third time this month Adobe\u00a0has issued\u00a0security bug fixes\u00a0for Flash Player. It should come as no surprise that the \u201crecent wave of critical vulnerabilities in Adobe\u2019s Flash Player has prompted many security professionals to call for the much-maligned software\u2019s demise,\u201d <a title=\"It's time to uninstall Adobe's Flash from your Mac - here's how\" href=\"http:\/\/appleinsider.com\/articles\/15\/07\/13\/its-time-to-uninstall-adobes-flash-from-your-mac---heres-how\" target=\"_blank\">wrote Shane Cole over at AppleInsider<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The humble route, of course, would be to apologetically state the pseudo-compassionate break-up line: &#8220;It&#8217;s Not You, It&#8217;s Me.&#8221; Unfortunately Adobe,\u00a0<a title=\"Facebook\u2019s Internet Challenge: Let\u2019s Kill Flash\" href=\"http:\/\/www.macobserver.com\/tmo\/article\/facebooks-internet-challenge-lets-kill-flash\" target=\"_blank\">according to Facebook, Apple, Google and YouTube<\/a>, maybe it IS you.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/U8TnhNxKNlU?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>But can Flash be saved from a slow death? According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.macobserver.com\/tmo\/article\/facebooks-internet-challenge-lets-kill-flash\" target=\"_blank\">The Mac Observer&#8217;s Jeff Gamet<\/a>, not likely.\u00a0Gamet wrote:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The root of the problem is security. Flash has so many major security issues that Adobe can&#8217;t even find all of them, let alone patch all the flaws. Companies that sell exploits to governments for spying and surveillance love Flash because of its long history of security issues.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nHacking Team is one of those companies, and recently was the victim of a security breach where another serious\u00a0Flash security exploit was revealed.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In response to the onslaught of Flash security issues this month, Mozilla also made headlines earlier this week when it announced it had blocked Adobe\u2019s Flash by default on all versions of the Firefox web browser. However, despite calls to kill off Flash, this was\u00a0not the final nail in the coffin, as confirmed in a\u00a0<a title=\"Link to Tweet\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MarkSchmidty\/status\/620806013768323072\" target=\"_blank\">tweet<\/a>\u00a0by Mark Schmidt, head of Firefox Support at Mozilla:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" width=\"500\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">To be clear, Flash is only blocked until Adobe releases a version which isn&#39;t being actively exploited by publicly known vulnerabilities.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Mark Schmidt (@MarkSchmidty) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MarkSchmidty\/status\/620806013768323072\">July 14, 2015<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Mozilla&#8217;s move to block Flash Player occurred\u00a0two days ago, late Monday night. Just yesterday, only a day later, Adobe released its latest\u00a0security fixes, addressing the publicly known vulnerabilities. And the updated Flash Player (version 18.0.0.209), once again, appears to work on Firefox. Flash lives to see another day. \ud83d\ude42 <\/p>\n<p>Mac and Windows users running Adobe Flash Player Desktop Runtime should <a title=\"Get Adobe Flash Player\" href=\"https:\/\/get.adobe.com\/flashplayer\/\" target=\"_blank\">update to Adobe Flash Player 18.0.0.209<\/a> as soon as possible. Flash Player Extended Support Release users should <a title=\"Flash Player Extended Support Release\" href=\"https:\/\/helpx.adobe.com\/flash-player\/kb\/archived-flash-player-versions.html\" target=\"_blank\">update to version 13.0.0.305<\/a>. Adobe Flash Player installed with Google Chrome will be automatically updated to the latest Chrome version, which will include Adobe Flash Player 18.0.0.209 on Macintosh, Windows and Linux. Windows 8.x users running Internet Explorer 10 and 11 will automatically get the updated Flash version 18.0.0.209 as well.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to patching Flash Player vulnerabilities, Adobe released <a href=\"https:\/\/helpx.adobe.com\/security\/products\/shockwave\/apsb15-17.html\">security updates for Shockwave Player<\/a>, which mitigates separate but critical flaws that could potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Amidst a flurry of calls to kill off Flash due to its continuous security woes, Adobe Systems has yet again unleashed a software update with patches for vulnerabilities affecting Flash Player.
