It appears the security certificate Apple uses to prevent piracy expired overnight on Wednesday, causing trouble with Mac users\u2019 apps.<\/p>\n<p>Alex Hern, writing for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2015\/nov\/12\/apple-user-anger-mac-apps-break-security-certificate-lapse\" target=\"_blank\">The Guardian<\/a>, further explained what\u00a0happened, saying:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cApplications downloaded from the Mac App Store were temporarily unavailable from 10PM UK time, when a security certificate expired, five years after its creation, with no replacement immediately available.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The issue was first spotted\u00a0by a Mac and iOS developer, Paul Haddad, who sent out the following tweet:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" width=\"500\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Well that would explain the MAS problem. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Nuqj9Uxxiz\">pic.twitter.com\/Nuqj9Uxxiz<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Paul Haddad (@tapbot_paul) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/tapbot_paul\/status\/664653066679906304\">November 12, 2015<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Apple promptly fixed the error by issuing a new certificate for the apps with an expiration date of April 2035 \u2014 but it was too late as Mac users were still faced with problems.<\/p>\n<p>While most Apple users\u00a0simply needed to log back into the Mac App Store to correct the issue, a good number of users were forced to delete and then reinstall every app they had bought or downloaded from the App Store in order to be able to use the software.
