Security fixes include patches for six high-level vulnerabilities, six medium-level bugs and one low-level issue. Fourteen vulnerabilities were fixed overall (one is for Linux 64-bit only). For the issues affecting Macs, Google awarded $7,500 in cash to the security researchers who provided information about the security holes covered in this update.<\/p>\n<p>Following are descriptions of the fixed bugs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/cve.mitre.org\/cgi-bin\/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2012-5115\" target=\"_blank\">CVE-2012-5115<\/a>: Defend against wild writes in buggy graphics drivers<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/cve.mitre.org\/cgi-bin\/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2012-5127\" target=\"_blank\">CVE-2012-5127<\/a>: Integer overflow leading to out-of-bounds read in WebP handling<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/cve.mitre.org\/cgi-bin\/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2012-5116\" target=\"_blank\">CVE-2012-5116<\/a>: Use-after-free in SVG filter handling<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/cve.mitre.org\/cgi-bin\/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2012-5118\" target=\"_blank\">CVE-2012-5118<\/a>: Integer bounds check issue in GPU command buffers<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/cve.mitre.org\/cgi-bin\/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2012-5121\" target=\"_blank\">CVE-2012-5121<\/a>: Use-after-free in video layout<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/cve.mitre.org\/cgi-bin\/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2012-5117\" target=\"_blank\">CVE-2012-5117<\/a>: Inappropriate load of SVG subresource in img context<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/cve.mitre.org\/cgi-bin\/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2012-5119\" target=\"_blank\">CVE-2012-5119<\/a>: Race condition in Pepper buffer handling<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/cve.mitre.org\/cgi-bin\/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2012-5122\" target=\"_blank\">CVE-2012-5122<\/a>: Bad cast in input handling<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/cve.mitre.org\/cgi-bin\/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2012-5123\" target=\"_blank\">CVE-2012-5123<\/a>: Out-of-bounds reads in Skia<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/cve.mitre.org\/cgi-bin\/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2012-5124\" target=\"_blank\">CVE-2012-5124<\/a>: Memory corruption in texture handling<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/cve.mitre.org\/cgi-bin\/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2012-5125\" target=\"_blank\">CVE-2012-5125<\/a>: Use-after-free in extension tab handling<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/cve.mitre.org\/cgi-bin\/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2012-5126\" target=\"_blank\">CVE-2012-5126<\/a>: Use-after-free in plug-in placeholder handling<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/cve.mitre.org\/cgi-bin\/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2012-5128\" target=\"_blank\">CVE-2012-5128<\/a>: Bad write in v8<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition to the aforementioned security updates, Chrome 23 enables users to \u201cview and control any website\u2019s permissions for capabilities such as geolocation, pop-ups, and camera\/microphone access,\u201d notes the <a href=\"http:\/\/chrome.blogspot.com\/2012\/11\/longer-battery-life-and-easier-website.html\" target=\"_blank\">Google Chrome Blog<\/a>. This means that instead of digging through settings pages to find appropriate permissions, users can simply click on the page\/lock icon next to a website\u2019s address in the omnibox to see a list of permissions and tweak them as desired.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/chrome-23-fixes-security-flaws-improves-permission-system\/google-chrome-23-page-lock-icon\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-7018\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7018\" title=\"Google-Chrome-23-page-lock-icon\" src=\"https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Google-Chrome-23-page-lock-icon-e1352236439599.png\" alt=\"Google Chrome 23 includes improved permission system\" width=\"620\" height=\"474\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Moreover, the latest Google Chrome release includes an option to send a \u201cdo not track\u201d (DNT) request to websites and web services. However, the Google team notes, \u201cThe effectiveness of such requests is dependent on how websites and services respond, so Google is working with others on a common way to respond to these requests in the future.\u201d In other words, while the technology is there, stay tuned for more on that.<\/p>\n<p>Google\u2019s Chrome browser updates automatically, so users will get these security updates and more upon launching the software.
