It also contains <strong>42 security fixes<\/strong>. A few of the highlights:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Lock Screen<br \/>\n<\/strong>Impact: A person with physical access to an iOS device may be able to see the email address used for iTunes<br \/>\nDescription: A logic issue was addressed with improved restrictions.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Contacts<br \/>\n<\/strong>Impact: A malicious application may be able to read restricted memory<br \/>\nDescription: An input validation issue was addressed with improved input validation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Mail<br \/>\n<\/strong>Impact: Processing a maliciously crafted message may lead to a denial of service<br \/>\nDescription: An input validation issue was addressed with improved input validation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><strong>MobileLockdown<br \/>\n<\/strong>Impact: A malicious application may be able to gain root privileges<br \/>\nDescription: An input validation issue was addressed with improved input validation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Photos Storage<br \/>\n<\/strong>Impact: A sandboxed process may be able to circumvent sandbox restrictions<br \/>\nDescription: An access issue was addressed with additional sandbox restrictions.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Wi-Fi<br \/>\n<\/strong>Impact: A device may be passively tracked by its WiFi MAC address<br \/>\nDescription: A user privacy issue was addressed by removing the broadcast MAC address.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Also included were 3 kernel fixes and 21 WebKit fixes, among others. All in all, a large amount of CVEs were addressed in this update, so it is recommended to install it sooner rather than later.<\/p>\n<p>The full list of security issues addressed can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT210118\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>. iOS 12.3 can be downloaded over the air by going to <strong>Settings<\/strong> &gt; <strong>General<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Software Update<\/strong>. You can also connect your iOS device to your Mac (or Windows PC) and install the update via the iTunes app.<\/p>\n<p>iOS 12 (including 12.3) is compatible with iPhone 5s and later, iPad Air and later, and iPod touch 6th generation. Older devices that cannot run iOS 12 are no longer receiving critical security updates.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, <strong>Apple still has not addressed the iOS Safari issue that allows anyone to send <a href=\"https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/ios-safari-flaw-allows-deceptive-web-page-previews-in-messages\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fake news headlines<\/a><\/strong> to other iMessage users.<\/p>\n<h3>tvOS 12.3<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-84742\" src=\"https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Apple-TV-4K-with-Siri-Remote-325x220-150x102.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"102\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Apple-TV-4K-with-Siri-Remote-325x220-150x102.png 150w, https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Apple-TV-4K-with-Siri-Remote-325x220-300x203.png 300w, https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Apple-TV-4K-with-Siri-Remote-325x220.png 325w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>This update for Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD\u2014formerly known as the Apple TV (4th generation)\u2014includes general performance and stability improvements and a new Apple TV app. A total of <strong>35 security issues<\/strong> were addressed, all of which were addressed in iOS 12.3; kernel, WebKit and Wi-Fi all had some work done to make them more secure.<\/p>\n<p>The full list of security issues addressed can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT210120\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>. The tvOS update can be downloaded directly from the Apple TV by going to <strong>Settings<\/strong> &gt; <strong>System<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Update Software<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Apple TV Software 7.3<\/h3>\n<p>Unexpectedly, the old Apple TV (3rd generation), which Apple sold from 2012 to 2016, also received a software update. The update only included <strong>3 security fixes<\/strong>: one for Bluetooth and two for Wi-Fi.<\/p>\n<p>The very short list of security issues addressed can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT210121\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>. You can download and install the update by going to <strong>Settings<\/strong> &gt; <strong>System<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Software Update<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Update Software<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>watchOS 5.2.1<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-74017\" src=\"https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Apple-Watch-Security-cropped-100x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Apple-Watch-Security-cropped-100x150.png 100w, https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Apple-Watch-Security-cropped.png 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 100px) 100vw, 100px\" \/>watchOS received <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2019\/05\/13\/apple-watch-pride-faces-watchos-5-2-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a few new watch faces<\/a> and all the other work was done in the form of security fixes. For macOS High Sierra and Sierra users, the new Safari 12.1.1 can be downloaded through the <strong>Updates<\/strong> tab of the <strong>App Store<\/strong>. For macOS Mojave users it is included in macOS 10.14.5.<\/p>\n<h3>macOS Mojave 10.14.5, Security Update 2019-003 High Sierra, Security Update 2019-003 Sierra<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-79843\" src=\"https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/macOS-Mojave-Security-300x195.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"98\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/macOS-Mojave-Security-300x195.png 300w, https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/macOS-Mojave-Security-150x98.png 150w, https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/macOS-Mojave-Security-305x200.png 305w, https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/macOS-Mojave-Security.png 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>Last but not least, macOS received some updates: security-only updates for Sierra and High Sierra users, and a security-plus-feature update for Mojave users. The update for Mojave includes the following enhancements and fixes to the OS:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Adds AirPlay 2 support for sharing videos, photos, music and more from your Mac directly to your AirPlay 2-enabled smart TV.<\/li>\n<li>Adds the ability to follow a magazine from the Apple News+ catalog browsing view (available in the U.S. and Canada only).<\/li>\n<li>Improves audio latency on <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/kb\/HT201300\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MacBook Pro models<\/a> introduced in 2018.<\/li>\n<li>Fixes an issue that prevented certain very large OmniOutliner and OmniPlan documents from rendering properly.<\/li>\n<li>Disables accessories with insecure Bluetooth connections.<\/li>\n<li>Fixes an issue that prevented resetting the user account password from the login window after using a personal recovery key (PRK) to unlock the FileVault volume.<\/li>\n<li>Fixes an issue that prevented the InstalledApplicationList MDM command from recognizing that updates are available for apps installed via VPP.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Of course, there are security related fixes included as well: <strong>51 security updates<\/strong> to be exact. These include:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Application Firewall<br \/>\n<\/strong>Available for: macOS Sierra 10.12.6, macOS High Sierra 10.13.6, macOS Mojave 10.14.4<br \/>\nImpact: An application may be able to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges<br \/>\nDescription: A logic issue was addressed with improved restrictions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DesktopServices<br \/>\n<\/strong>Available for: macOS Mojave 10.14.4<br \/>\nImpact: A malicious application may bypass Gatekeeper checks<br \/>\nDescription: This issue was addressed with improved checks.<\/p>\n<p><strong>EFI<br \/>\n<\/strong>Available for: macOS Mojave 10.14.4<br \/>\nImpact: A user may be unexpectedly logged in to another user\u2019s account<br \/>\nDescription: An authentication issue was addressed with improved state management.<\/p>\n<p><strong>StreamingZip<br \/>\n<\/strong>Available for: macOS Mojave 10.14.4<br \/>\nImpact: A local user may be able to modify protected parts of the file system<br \/>\nDescription: A validation issue existed in the handling of symlinks. You may recall that <a href=\"https:\/\/support.intego.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/115003855272-Meltdown-and-Spectre-What-Apple-Users-Need-to-Know\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Spectre and Meltdown<\/a> were speculative execution exploits, which was followed by <a href=\"https:\/\/foreshadowattack.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Foreshadow-NG<\/a> (addressed in macOS Mojave 10.14.1), and now there is a new attack called <a href=\"https:\/\/zombieloadattack.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ZombieLoad<\/a> (discussed on <a href=\"http:\/\/podcast.intego.com\/83\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">episode 83<\/a>\u00a0of the Intego Mac Podcast). More on the microcode content of the update can be found in Apple&#8217;s documentation\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT210107\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>. Notably, users will need to manually enable full mitigation through a <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT210108\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">manual process<\/a>, if they choose to do so; it can cause up to a 40% reduction in system performance for some tasks, and since the vulnerability is not known to be exploited in the wild yet, Apple isn&#8217;t enabling full mitigation by default. Listed as an update that ensures proper updating and restoring for iOS devices using iTunes for Mac, no further details are provided by Apple, so what this update does exactly is currently unknown. <strong>No security-related fixes<\/strong> are mentioned for this update.<\/p>\n<h3>Back up your Macs and iOS devices before updating<\/h3>\n<p>Whether you&#8217;re using iOS or macOS, always back up your data prior to installing any updates.
