This week&#8217;s video features the following security stories.<\/p>\n<h3>New details about the July 15th Twitter hack<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-88468\" src=\"https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/bird-with-megaphone.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"155\" height=\"132\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/bird-with-megaphone.jpg 155w, https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/bird-with-megaphone-150x128.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 155px) 100vw, 155px\" \/>New details have emerged about the July 15th Twitter hack, in which <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TwitterSupport\/status\/1286123465276178433\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">130 accounts were targeted<\/a> by attackers, many of which were Verified accounts.<\/p>\n<p>Of those 130, attackers sent tweets from 45 accounts, accessed the direct messages of 36 accounts, and downloaded a complete Twitter Data export from eight non-Verified accounts. (Twitter later <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TwitterSupport\/status\/1289000208701878272\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">changed its story<\/a> to say that Twitter Data was exported from only seven accounts.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-twitter-cyber-access-exclusive\/exclusive-more-than-1000-people-at-twitter-had-ability-to-aid-hack-of-accounts-idUSKCN24O34E\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reuters reports<\/a> that at least 1,000 Twitter employees have recently had the same level of access that the attackers gained, making it easier for the bad guys to find an employee to hack, bribe, or extort to hijack nearly any Twitter account. (Twitter later <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TwitterSupport\/status\/1289000334497439744\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">stated<\/a> that they have now &#8220;significantly limited access to our internal tools and systems.&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Department of Justice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2020\/07\/teen-arrested-mastermind-twitter-hack-200731191507910.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced today<\/a>\u00a0that three male suspects, aged 17, 19, and 22, had been charged for crimes related to the Twitter attack.<\/p>\n<h3>Garmin outages caused by ransomware attack<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-81769\" src=\"https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/unplugged-phone-cable-150x85.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"85\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/unplugged-phone-cable-150x85.png 150w, https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/unplugged-phone-cable-300x171.png 300w, https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/unplugged-phone-cable-768x438.png 768w, https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/unplugged-phone-cable-1024x583.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.intego.com\/mac-security-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/unplugged-phone-cable-657x374.png 657w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/article\/garmin-services-and-production-go-down-after-ransomware-attack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ZDNet reports<\/a> that late last week, wearable and navigation tech company Garmin experienced a ransomware attack that forced the company to shut down its Web site, online services, and even its production lines. <a href=\"https:\/\/grahamcluley.com\/garmin-staggers-back-online-after-ransomware-attack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">In a statement on Monday<\/a>, Garmin said there was &#8220;no indication&#8221; that attackers had accessed any customer data.<\/p>\n<p>At the time this week&#8217;s video segment was recorded, it was not known whether Garmin paid the reported $10 million ransom\u2014although this was later <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/article\/garmin-services-and-production-go-down-after-ransomware-attack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">all but confirmed<\/a> by BleepingComputer.<\/p>\n<h3>Privacy news stories<\/h3>\n<p>For the rest of this week&#8217;s privacy news, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=euvaBpwxke8&amp;list=PLL1eIqHwwN-MY4WwZvjNYcqo02CbtoB7J\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">watch this six-minute video<\/a>.
